Drive to Gaganchukki and Barachukki
Friday, 23 September 2005

The day was 20 – Aug –2005, I woke up from bed at around 9:45 am, after playing MaxPayne till 4:30 am the previous night. We were planning to go to gaganchukki and barachukki falls for a long time now, and time had come now. In the bed, I called PK and BU, and asked them to come home at around 10:30. So everything was set and atlast we left for the falls at around 12:00 in my everlasting, loving, economical maruthi car.

We started off from ring road, and connected to mysore road, well as expected we were welcomed by the traffic jam to mysore road, but this time I found out that the traffic jam was because of an accident. After the initial road blocks we were able to pick up speed after Grips – our favourite go karting place. Since we left late everyone had finished breakfast so there were no pit stops this time around, after around an hour or so we stopped to drink some coconut water, and a much needed fag then we were off.

In Maddhur we need to take a left turn, the road is not that good here as one should expect, we then reached Malvalli and to our surprise found the worst stretch of road and a VB bakery. We had few puffs (egg and veg) which were pretty good. The country view is absolutely brilliant here and if u enjoy driving it gives you a good drive apart from stretches of bad roads

Atlast at around 3pm we reached our destination only to discover that it is flocked with tourists. But the scenic view of the falls made us forget all that. The times article which stated it as the Niagra falls of south India, is truly precise.

The photo attached above was taken from the view point. We all wanted to go down to enjoy this amazing scene much closer, so we took a path which is a bit risky, and then we were closer to the falls, the scene was spectacular, and the little drops of water sprinkling on us was a good experience and was much needed in the hot sun. We took some amazing snaps there, and everyone of us had a good time, myself and bu did try few routes to make it to the top of falls, but it was very slippery and so decided not to go further

We were also blessed by Mother Nature to view 2 rainbows near the falls, which made it look even more spectacular.

At around 4:30 we came back to the top. We had 2 plates of bisibelebath which was OK, since we were all hungry it dint last long. We had a good tea there and then planned to come back as it was getting late. Suni now wanted to see barachuki as well, since it was getting late we tried convincing her but she was adamant. Now we started driving towards barachuki, thanks to her decision, the ride was spectacular, scenic and we came across few excellent bridges. We also went on a boat ride in “teppa” where pk and bu tried their hands to ride it and it was fun. We also discovered that the “teppa” had few holes like our Bangalore roads, thanks to our politicians… by the time we were back on land, our pants were wet. After the “ teppa” ride we headed towards barachukki which was around 18 kms.

Around 5:30pm we were in barachukki. Iam sad to say that this place was more dirtier than gagnchukki, we could see plastic thrown all over the place. Why cant our government assure that tourist places like these are kept clean, is it that expensive to keep a beautiful place like this clean. I could see many tourists throwing plastic covers, biscut pack covers in the vicinity, its about time that our people realized that preserving places like this will only help us in future.

Well, the view from here is absolutely unexplainable. PK was asking me again and again “yaru maga idana ella madidu”, its really a sight. We do have a path to get down here as well, but since we were getting late we decided not to go down, we did see few people having a great time playing with water.

And then we left at around 6:15- 6:30pm on our way back home. Night driving is really tough in mysore road but then we followed a santro car which in turn followed a Volvo bus. The ride back home was really good. And then we were back home at around 8:45- 9:00pm safely.
